Service Description
This 1:30 hour session in the safety of the University of Calgary continue to further your basic paddle skills! You can work on your roll and other skills.
Prerequisites
Whitewater Kayaking Basics (pool session) or previous basic kayak skills and wet exit experience
IMPORTANT: You will have to demonstrate to the club that you are able to perform a wet exit 2 times before you are allowed to participate in the pool session. If you have never done it, a demonstration and instructions will be given and you will have to perform a wet exit after.
This drop in is designed for adults but youth aged 16 and older accompanied by their parent(s) are welcome.
Checklist
Wear:
- neoprene wetsuit is optional if you easily get cold in pools
- swimsuit / shorts / lycra-synthetic top layer (avoid cotton fabrics which absorb water and stay cold)
- if glasses are worn, have a strap to hold them in place
- Nose plug is recommended
Bring:
- towel
- water bottle
- snacks
- warm clothing to change into at the end of the session
You can rent wetsuits, paddling jackets and neoprene booties from the Outdoor Centre using the Online Gear Rental page. https://outdoor-centre.ucalgary.ca/gear-rentals
Reserve early to ensure availability.
Gear must be picked up beforehand - rentals are not available at the drop in location.
Itinerary
Meet at the U of C Pool 10 min prior to the start of the class. Access the pool via the locker rooms in Kinesiology-A. CAMPUS MAP Change, then bring your gear with you onto the pool deck. As you come on to the pool deck look for the kayaks in the far right hand corner, this is where you will meet your instructor.

The cost includes kayaks, paddles, PFDs, & spraydecks. All drop in paddling gear will be on pool side.
These must be done online, well before the program start to allow participation if you are not a AWA member.
